Install vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) 6.5

VMware has two options for you to install vCenter server on Windows server or VMware vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) deploy on Photon OS. If deploy on windows you will need both the license for windows and vCenter, and install VMware vCenter Server Appliance you only need the license for vCenter.

This article will guide you to install a vCenter Server Appliance.

Download VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.5 : VMware-VCSA-all-6.5.0-7070488.iso

Mount or extract the VIM 6.5 ISO image to the windows.
Locate to “VMware-vcenter-6.5.0-7515524_linux\vcsa-ui-installer\win32” and execute the “installer.exe” file .

Select Install to install new vCenter Server Appliance .

Stage 1: Deploy appliance.

1. Click Next to continue setting.

2. Check in the box “I accept the items of the license ageement” and click next button to continue.

3. Select your platform services controller development type and click Next to continue

For simplicity you should install vCenter Server with an embedded Platform Services Controller, This platform deploys all services that are bundled with the Platform Services Controller vCenter Server services on the same virtual machine or physical server.

4. Enter vSphere Server management address, and login information to allow application install a virtual Photon OS with vCenter server service deployed on this vSphere server.

Accept Certificate Warning to allow application connect to vSphere server.

5. Enter VM name and root password for vCenter Server Appliance Virtual Machine (VCSA VM).

6. Select deployment size.

7. Select disk to save VM machine.

8. Setting VM network for VCSA VM.

9. Check the settings that were previously set and click Finish to start deployment process.

Wait for the installation process in stage 1: This process will take several minutes (15-30 minutes, the most time consuming installation is RPM installation process) to install and configure a new virtual machine with vCenter Server appliance on vSphere server service, . Waiting and do not impact the virtual machine being installed on the vSphere server.

This process will deploy new virtual machine on vSphere server to install vCenter server service.

Stage 2: Setup vCenter Server Appliance with an Embedded PSC.

1. Click Next to continue setting.

2. Setting time synchronization and allow SSH access to VCSA VM.

3. Setting Single Sign On (SSO) service, this information will used to access VCSA management console.

4. Check to the box “Join the VMWare’s Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP)” to continue.

5. Check the settings that were previously set and click Finish to start deployment process.

Wait for the installation process in stage 2:

Once the installation is complete, you can access to VCSA management console ([https://ip_address/](http://)) use the SSO credentials in the setting with username [email protected]_domain_name.
