pfSense® software is a free, open source customized distribution of FreeBSD specifically tailored for use as a firewall and router that is entirely managed via web interface. In addition to being a powerful, flexible firewalling and routing platform, it includes a long list of related features and a package system allowing further expandability without adding bloat and potential security vulnerabilities to the base distribution [1].

How to install pfSense on VMWare?
Download file ISO: https://www.pfsense.org/download/
Select option you want download:

In VMWare,
Create “New Virtual Machine”

Select image iso you downloaded

Finally, turn on VMware.

When running the virtual machine we will see the following options:

“Enter” select the first option or we can move to the next option.
Go to the next option and select “i” and enter to install.

We continue to install with the options:
Configuration Console: Accept these Settings
Select Task: Quick/Easy Install
Are you SURE?: OK
Install Kernel: Standard Kernel
Reboot: Reboot

When the virtual machine restarts, we make the option to configure the network adapters.
The MAC address will help us confirm the network card.

Config network:

After completion, we will have the address of the site to access and manage pfSense.

Web page interface:

Username: admin
Password: pfsense

Complete configuration for pfSense. Next, we will configure the firewall rules.
